Artist Statement

My work has found inspiration in the landscape and its natural forms for a number of years. Besides being artistically inspired, there are few things in life that I enjoy more than a walk in the woods or along the coastline. My experiences in nature invariably end up involving a collection or gathering of objects that are then brought into the studio for future use. The works began years ago as a study of nature’s nearly perfect geometric patterns and have evolved into the “Hybrid Series” a preoccupation in its more peculiar and fantastical characteristics. The “Altered States Series –Scenes of Comedy and Tragedy” derives from observations of my local environment and the intriguing intersection of man- made forms and the natural world. I am particularly interested in nature’s adaptive capabilities and the incongruous transformations that sometimes result.
